Holiday Nails: Halloween Edition!!!

I've been a pretty lax Beauty blogger this month. This semester has been totally kicking my ass. With school stressing me out, I decided to take a break last night and paint my nails.
Holiday nails, holiday nails halloween edition, halloween nails, halloween nail art, halloween skittle nails, skittle nails, nail art, manicure, trelly polish, trelly, trelly witches in the sky, pumplin nail art, glitter polish.

The first set of photos is my current nails, I used Cheeky Jumbo plate #6 "Happy Holidays."

The order of what I used for the first photo:
  • On my Thumb and Ring finger: Base is Sinful Colors Cloud 9. Topped with Maybelline Clearly Spotted
  • Pointer Finger: Base Sinful Colors Black on Black. Stamped with the Web full finger image using Konad white.
  • Middle Finger: Base Sinful Colors Cloud 9.  stamped with the Pumpkin full finger image using Konad black.
  • Pinky Finger: Base Sinful Colors Snow Me White, stamped with the Bat full finger image using Konad black.

I didn't have lots of time for nail art this month, so last month I used Zoya - Megan. Topped with Trelly Polish, Witches In The Sky. I am completely in love with this glitter bomb! It's so fun! It has green mirco glitter along with bigger green square glitters. It also has black and purple square glitters, holographic stars and moon glitter too! It's so much fun and turned muted Megan into a  fun halloween manicure! It took two coats of a top coat to smooth out the glitter.

Gel Manicures For Dummies: The Half Gel Manicure

Some times when  the mood strikes me I do nail art. I got this idea of a manicue off of pinterest. Click here to see the photo I'm talking about. It was fairly easy to create this manicure if you have the right tools.

Base Colors
  • I started off applying a gel base coat, and gel structure gel to help my nails stay strong, and prolong my manicure.
  • For middle finger and thumb China glaze For Audrey was applied as a base.
  • For my pinky I applied Sinful colors White out
  • For my ring and pointer finger I applied Finger Paint Easel Come, Easel Go, topped with Models Own Blizzard

For The Nail Art
  • On my middle finger I used born pretty store plate QA5 to stamp the anchor with Sinful Colors White Out
  • I used my second biggest dotting tool to dot SC White out on my thumb.
  • I used my born pretty striping tape on my pinky and then painted over it with For Audrey by China Glaze

Once that was all dry, I waited about an hour and half to be sure it was done( I was paranoid and waited to preserve this perfect manicure) After I did the designs. I applied my Sally Hansen Gel top coat. Cured that, then I was done.

This mani lasted me a week and a half before I took it off. The only reason I took it off was I chipped my left hand thumb nail pretty bad when I removed my pandora bracelet. I can't stand nail polish chips so I removed the polish shortly after that.

I fully believe you can make a half gel manicure last just as long as a fully gel polish manicure if you do the steps. If your favorite polish doesn't come in a gel verison don't fret. Just use a gel base coat, and top coat and you can make it last. Don't forget to cure the gel coats!!!!!!!

Maybelline Dr Rescue Baby Lips in Smoothing Sorbet review

I am huge HUGE fan of baby lips. Do I think they're the best thing out there? No. Do I have two in every bag? YES! I love these little things, great for travel throughout the day. This being said I of course had to try the newest verison of baby lips since I skipped out on the electro baby lips line. Click down below to see what I think of this new line.

Guest Post: Finding the Right Red Lip for Your Skin Tone

As a teenager, I remember watching classic movies and being drawn to the gorgeous red lips of Rita Heyworth and Elizabeth Taylor. I wanted so badly to look as glamorous as they were, but every time I attempted to dress up my pucker with a bold red, I ended up looking like Ronald McDonald’s unfortunate sister.

After many years of failure, I finally found the secret behind the perfect red lip. Since I’m a girl and I love to share, I’ll pass my hard earned information on to you! If I can save just one woman the heartache of looking like Bozo, then my work here is done.

Skin Tone & Undertones

Before we go too in depth, we should start with the basics. I’m going to assume you already know if your skin is fair, medium or dark. If I’m wrong…well then I suppose the old line about assumption applies in both our cases.

Undertones are a bit trickier. Your skin’s undertone is classified as warm if it is yellow, golden or peach. It’s classified as cool if it’s pink, red or blue. Check out the inside of your wrist in natural light. If your veins appear blue you have cool undertones. If they appear green you have warm undertones. If you see a mixture of both then you may be one of the lucky neutral girls!
If the vein trick isn’t working for you, give one of these other methods a try.

The Perfect Red

When looking for the ideal red, remember that lipstick shades with similar undertones to your skin will look the most natural on your lips.

If you have fair skin, aim for a classic red shade. Those with cool undertones should go for a true cherry red. If you have warm undertones, opt for coral reds that add a shot of color but aren’t too intense.

Our medium skinned friends are pretty lucky as most shades work well with their coloring. True reds, cranberry shades, and pink-based reds will all look fabulous! Olive skinned girls should go for brighter reds with an orange or golden base.

Darker-toned women get the joy of wearing deeper and more vibrant colors. If your undertones are warm, stick with colors like burgundy or warm brick—super bright ones can seem too severe. If your skin runs on the cooler side, try a blue-based shade like fig or dark cherry.

Wearing Red Like a Pro

Unfortunately, pulling off a bold lip isn’t always as easy as sweeping on a gloss and hitting the road. If you want a truly enviable red pout, here are a few tips to keep in mind.
SStart with a thick layer of lip balm, let it sit for 15 minutes and then wipe the excess off with a tissue. My personal favorite is the Citrus Balm from Eminence.
With a lip liner that matches your lipstick as closely as possible, line the outer part of your lip and color it in.
Use a lip brush to apply your color as you’ll have much more control over where the lipstick goes.
To stop smearing and bleeding, dab a small bit of concealer around your lips.

And there you have it! I now rock the red lip on a regular basis and not once have I been asked to make a balloon animal! I have every confidence that you too can go forth into the world and make daring lipstick choices. You’ll look fabulous!

September 2013 Favorites

I know I'm late, but I still want to get this post out and back to my normal routine. I didn't have a lot of favorites this month. I've scaled back on what I was using on my face last month to try to figure out what was breaking my face out.

I am a baby lips extremist. I know it's not the most moisturizing option but I love to throw this in my bag to use all day. My favorite this month was Baby Lips Cherry Me. One of the original flavors, and my favorite! I do have a review on the Dr Rescue Baby Lips coming soon!!

Next on my list is Versace's Bright Cyrstal. I know you can tell from the almost empty bottle it's one of my favorites. I use it all through summer and spring. It's a nice light floral. It's a perfume that with one spray it lasts all day. It's also a lower strength perfume, meaning only if you stand close to me do you smell it.  September is the last month I wear this perfume. In the Fall and Winter I prefer to use a different perfume.

Last but not least La Roche-Psay Effaclar Duo Acne treatment. I finally took the plunge and splurged on buying this. (CVS having a $10 extra carebucks incentive didn't hurt either) I have been really enjoying it. I don't want to say too much because I have a big review coming up. I just want every one know that I do like it a lot.

What were your favorites of September? Leave links to your favorite posts below so I can check them out!!

Name Change! Now The Beauty and The Business!!!

I have been debating for a couple months now in changing my blog name. I won't be in college forever, even though it feels that way! *sigh*  I want my blog to be able to grow with me. I know I haven't been on top of  my blog posting anymore. Business school and work take precedence over blogging. A sad thing, but a reality of life.

I call myself The Beauty and The Business now, a little spin on beauty and the beast. Also because if you don't think that your beautiful who will? I added 'the business' to the name because I am currently an International Business major at Temple. It's insanely hard this semester, due to my business communication teacher, and his red pen love affair.

I have a bunch of things photographed and swatched just waiting for their blog posts to be written up. I hopefully will get a couple things queued this week so I won't be so panicked to get a post up.

I hope that all my lovely readers, the lurkers and commentiers still continue to follow and read my blog even if I change my name. It's a mark to symbolize me moving up and growing older in life, and in blogging.

I can't wait for the things to come for my blog! I hope you guys will love it as much as I do!

New name, Now The Beauty and The Business, The Beauty and The Business, The Beauty and The Business blog
