Guest Post: How To Wear Dark Lipstick

Hello to all of Meg's readers!  My name is Christine and I'm a beauty blogger from Toronto, Canada.  I've been following Meg's blog for awhile and was excited when she offered to let me write a guest post.  Today I'll be telling you how to make a scarily dark lipstick easy to wear.

I had long admired women who wore beautiful dark lipstick and always assumed they wouldn't suit be because I'm too pale.  I eventually bit the bullet and tried dark lipsticks but it took some trial and error to figure out how to do the rest of my makeup so I don't get washed out.  So I'm here to share my tips.

Eyes:  Stick to simple and neutral eyeshadow.  I used a light matte brown all over my lid (Urban Decay Naked), a dark brown in the crease and lower lash line (Urban Decay Darkhorse), and a satiny cream shadow in the inner corners of my eyes.  I think it's important to fill in your brows and wear some bold eyeliner to balance the look.

Face:  Dark and bold lipsticks can bring out imperfections in your skin so wear your usual base makeup.  I'd suggest adding a bronzer or contour to warm up your skin.  I personally use MAC Blush in Harmony to contour my face.

Cheeks:  Mauve, berry, coral, and dark pink blushes all work with dark lipsticks.  I have used MAC Blush in Dollymix which is a dark pink with a slight shimmer.

Lips:  I have choosen Revlon's Super Lustrous Lipstick in "Black Cherry" as it's a beautiful dark burgundy shade and is very affordable.  A good lipstick shouldn't need a lip liner but if you prefer to use one, MAC's Lip Pencil in Vino goes well.  If "Black Cherry" seems too scary, MAC Lipstick in Rebel is a less bold but equally pretty option.

I hope this helps anyone who is too afraid to wear a very dark lip colour.
