My favorites of 2012: Makeup edition

Starting today and following for a few blog posts I will be doing my favorites of 2012, and a maybe a birthday/christmas post on what I got. I might not just because well I turned 21 this year, I mostly got alcohol and jewelry. I'm not complaining though!

As you can see from below it's actually a small amount of favorites. It's mostly what I use everyday. Some guys are favorites from last year - I'm looking at you NAKED.  Others are newly discovered - Dream Matte Mousse.

Hard Candy's Sheer Envy face primer I've been using this primer for over two years now. It's still my favorite. It has great staying power! Doesn't break me out. It's amazing. I only have one complaint does nothing about my giant pores. I know it doesn't advertise it would, but I still wish it helped. I'm on a hunt for a good primer. Any suggestions ladies?

MeMeMe's Dew Pots in Willow Whisper I really love this cream eyeshadow. I use it as a base for darker brown shadows I use. I especially like to use it under toasted of my naked palette. It gives my look an extremely long wear time. It looks great on it own, but I notice if I don't set it with some type of powder it creases.

NAKED by Urban Decay I've had this thing forever. I am still in love with this since I first got it. It's the perfect palette for me since I'm not a huge fan of color shadows. It was so  worth the splurge!

Urban Decay's Primer Potion in Sin I love this brand of primer. I love all the versions but I love this the best because sometimes I use this to only prime my eyes for eyeliner and not put eyeshadow on. It gives it a nice shimmery look. LOVE it!

NYX's Blush in Pinched It's such a lovely redish-pink blush with gold shimmer. It's the only blush I've used all fall and so far all of winter as well. There's so much product in these compacts that I barely even made a dent in it.

MAC's Lipstick in Snob I love this pale baby pink lipstick. It looks a little lilac on me but I love it. Wear times great, doesn't dry out my lips or stain them.

ELF's Liquid liner in Black I love this eyeliner. Lasts all day doesn't smudge. I stays in place when I go out at night. It's only a dollar! Such a steal!

Maybelline's Dream Matte mousse I've just recently found this foundation and I'm in love! It gives me great medium-full coverage. I never get cakey, it gives me such a lovely airbrush look!

Maybelline's Dream Matte Powder  I love this because it keeps my skin matte all day without looking dry. Keeps the shine at bay.

Hard Candy's Baked Bronzer in Tiki They advertise this as a bronzer, which I find if you use it as a bronzer you look like such a shimmery mess. I wouldn't suggest it. BUT I love this as a highlighter! It's so nice, and it'll last forever that way!

These are my favorite makeup items! I can't wait to try and find new favorites next year! What are your favorite makeup items?

Beauty products clean out.

Christmas is over, our gifts still have that shiny newness to them. Life is good. Or at least I think so. To make room for my new goodies it's time to get rid of makeup I don't touch. I admit it's hard. Seeing all that makeup wasted. Some products were awesome but just hit their expiration date. While others I tried once, hated and never touched again.

Ladies it's time to put our big girl pants on and get ride of old unused products. 2013 is closing in on us, it's time to make room for all the new goodies we all know we will buy in the new year. It's tough. I didn't want to throw my makeup out but it's needs to be done. Just think of all this new space that needs to be filled up!

A lot of the foundations you see in the above picture is all the wrong color, or super old. I found out stains weren't for me the hard way. Old eyeshadow palettes that broke. It's hard to see all this makeup in a pile knowing you have to throw it out. It's a shame you can't sanitize makeup or I would have given some of it away to my friends.
This photo is just the small amount of hair products I just don't use or touch. I know I'll never use it so why keep it.

PS Please excuse the mess on the floor I'm in the middle of doing a whole room make over.

I hope you ladies have a great new year! Can't wait to spend another year blogging and reviewing makeup.

Julep's New Year's Mystery Box

julep mystery box, new year's mystery box, new year julep, julepI couldn't help myself this time when they said there will be at least $100 worth of products in the box. I also said what the hell I'll get it for myself for my birthday!

In the box I revieved:

  •  5 polishes (What a bummer!)
  • Lengthening Mascara - full size
  • 3 One step polish remover pads
  • 2 age defying hand samplers
  • Sicilian orange Foot soak -full size
  • A small nail file

julep mystery box, new year's mystery box, new year julep, julep
From top to bottom the polishes I received are:
  • Lauren a matte fuchsia color
  • Sienna -it's actually a very pretty silver. It didn't turn out that way in the photo
  • Georgia a shimmery orange
  • A mystery color - there is no name on this one is a black polish with silver and orange glitter
  • Cindy - a shimmery green color
Okay so here's my feelings on this. I am disappointed. There's no hiding it. I always wish I get more polishes than products. I'm honestly not interested in the side products. I definitely feel like I got my $20. Do I feel like I got $100 worth of products no. But that's because I feel like Julep is wayyy over priced for such a small amount of polish. OPI is worth their money, Julep polishes not so much.

Am I happy still? Yes! I can't wait to use Cindy and the mystery nail polish. The foot scrub smells yummy!  Let's be honest I do love trying out new mascaras.

                                        Merry Christmas!!

Finally made a Sephora trip!

I made a trip to Sephora about a week ago, to pick up a treat for myself. And to also pick up my birthday freebie. Finally! I've been waiting not so patiently all year for this one! Soooo much better than the last two birthday freebies!

I can already say after using the both of them for about a week now that I really like these. My one and only complaint about these products is it has a lemony flavor to them. Even the Rose one. Is it just me, or does anyone else notice it? I do love that my lips feel moisturized right away after using these. What a great feeling! I do have to say that the red doesn't give my lips much of a tint. But I'm okay with that.

Since Tomorrow is not only Christmas but my 21st Birthday I won't be blogging. I might not be back till around the 28th. I can't wait to celebrate and be with my family.

I hope you ladies have a Merry Christmas!

NYX's Pore Filler Face Primer review

Purchased, Affiliated link

I have yet to try a face primer from NYX before. Naturally I was extremely excited to try this because I have had a lot of great products I like from NYX. Mainly their eyeshadow base, and their eyeshadows themselves are a love of mine. I recently had a nasty bought with adult acne leaving me with scars and larger pores. I bought NYX Cosmetics Pore Filler Primer and have used it on and off for the best 3 months.

This primer had an odd consistency. Not odd in a bad way, but in a different way. I never had a almost chunky feeling primer. I'm guessing that is to help fill in your pores. This primer smooths out over the skin without any problems. It leaves a nice smooth surface feeling afterwards. This has not made me break out.

The only one problem I find, and of course it's a big one. I find it doesn't help with the size of my pores. Which is such a bummer since this is advertised to help with large pores. I don't expect them to disappear but if they looked smaller it would be nice.

There is one thing I absolutely love about this product. This makes my face makeup last for hours! At least over 8 hours. A full school day and some more! It's an amazing!

As you can see in the photos that my pores are quite noticeable. If I take it far away with a camera it doesn't pick up my pores. But I do want to stress if you saw me in person you would really see how big more pores are, even with foundation on. Which is such a shame.

Pros:

  • Long lasting
  • Doesn't clog pores
  • No noticeable scent
  • Gives an even surface to work on
Cons:
  • Doesn't fill pores
  • Pricey-ish
VERDICT: Now while it didn't fill my pores in or shrink them I do like this primer. It really made my makeup last! Now you can buy this from either Ulta, cherryculture.com or NYX website. Sells for about $12. I would try to get it from Ulta because they run a lot of sales mostly bogo50% off on NYX items or buy here , Now will I buy it again. Maybe. I won't buy it for the reason it makes my pores look smaller.

Holiday Look Vol 2

I recently went to an ugly sweater party. Which I won the cutest ugly sweater prize. Thank you cheap hello kitty crew-neck from Walmart. (Only $9 such a steal!)

My problem was with this party I literally only had 45minutes to get from work to this party. - Not really but I always hate missing the first parts of parties. I actually like to talk to people while we're all still sober.

I of course still wanted to do my makeup before I left. So I created this super easy look to do. Take an everyday look and put my twist on it. Without over shadowing my ugly sweater.

What I did after I primed and prepped(primer, and foundation):
step 1 sweep a shimmer eyeshadow only on my lids.
Step 2 take eyeliner and create a winged eye. To do this just closely line your top lashes and then take the liner and sweep it upwards following a line up from your bottom lashes. Step 3.  Line your bottom outer eye corner. You want to connect the top and bottom liner. Only line the bottom lash line up until your pupil.
Step 4 Use a lengthening mascara first, then layer a volumizing mascara over top. - That's what I did. It's not required but I get the best lash results that way.
Step 5 An extremely light brush of blush over your checks. Just a light flush is what you want
Last but not least
Step 6 Use a true red, or any red really, lipstick. I used chaos NYX.

There you have it ladies, it may seem like a lot with 6 steps but it's super easy and can be achieved in 10minutes flat. If you ladies are in a pinch but need a great holiday or even an everyday look. Look no further. This is it! Best  of luck ladies with the impending holidays upon us!
Here's a better shot of my ugly sweater I wore to the party. It's quite cutesy, but any other day of the year I wouldn't be caught dead near this.

I'm Getting Sunburned!

I'm Getting Sunburned!, I'm Getting Sunburned! Wet n Wild, Wet n Wild color trio, I'm Getting Sunburned! swatches

I've had this palette unopened in my makeup collection for a long time now. Which is sad really. I finally decided to swatch and use it, and boy am I such a fool for waiting this long! I should have known better that Wet'nWild palettes are awesome!

I'm Getting Sunburned!, I'm Getting Sunburned! Wet n Wild, Wet n Wild color trio, I'm Getting Sunburned! swatches
As you can tell from the swatches this is only me going over twice without any primer. These shadows pack a punch!

The browbone color is such a pretty shimmery lilac/pink. There's no glitter it's all pure shimmer. I don't use it as a highlight but as another lid shade. I think it's too pigmented for a highlight color.

The crease color is interesting. I don't think I ran accross another color like it. It's a dark matte brown with red glitter in it. An odd combo, but I love it.  But I have to say the red glitter doesn't show up after you blend your crease color, which is a shame. Also be careful with the brown shade. It's powdery and it gets in the gold and pink shadows. This is a great candidate for de-potting your shadows.

The lid color is this coppery gold shimmer. great color for the coming holiday season. A much warmer color than silver!

Pros:

I'm Getting Sunburned!, I'm Getting Sunburned! Wet n Wild, Wet n Wild color trio, I'm Getting Sunburned! swatches
  • Super pigmented
  • The shimmers are buttery soft
  • Great payoff
  • Lasts all day
  • Only $2.99!!
  • Travel sized, perfect for this holiday season.

Cons:

  • Brown is on the powdery side and gets into the lighter shades

Above is a quick look I did. Excuse me for no liner, or mascara. I did this real quick to give you a quick peak at how well this applies.

VERDICT: I am seriously in love with this trio. I'm so upset I didn't open this one sooner! The browbone color is gorgeous! This is a must buy! Sells for $2.99 at Rite Aid, Walgreens, and Wal-mart.

Maybelline dream matte mousse

I don't know about you ladies, but the holidays are creeping closer and closer these days - 7 days till Christmas/My Birthday - which means we have no time to waste to find the right makeup for ourselves! Just think of all the photos and maybe videos you'll appear in over the holidays. All the parties to go to. It's now or never to perfect your makeup.

I've come to notice that Maybelline products seem to work good for my skin, and has yet to break me out. Since I haven't really had found my Holy Grail foundation I decided to give this a whirl since if you haven't noticed yet I like whipped foundations best. I find them easier to work with.

I need about medium coverage to cover all my acne scars. This foundation promises medium to full coverage. It comes in tons of shades I think 15 - don't quote me. The foundation comes in a semi-heavy round glass container. I say semi-heavy because it's light compared to Revlon's whipped foundation. (Review here)

When they same mousse foundation they really do mean it. It's dry like hair mousse, but has a little thicker concesentcy. There's a lot of product in the jar. It's super fluffy like. I use surprisingly a little amount and still get full coverage.

Pros:

  • Lightweight
  • medium to full coverage
  • not cakey
  • almost airbrush look

Cons:
  • Semi pricey about $10
  • last 5-7 hours. Not a full day but close enough
  • Not for those with dry skin
  • It's a must to use a primer
VERDICT: I'm in love. I think I found my holy grail foundation. That is until I get bored maybe, maybe not. If you have normal or oily skin this is for you. Just make sure you catch it on sale. I know the drugstores are always having sales on maybelline products. Repurchase. $9.50

Lush Haul!!

I was downtown today getting my eyebrows threaded before the shop I love closes for the holidays/I become too busy to take the train down to get there. I knew for a long time that there was a lush store downtown off of broad street. Which is right by the threading place I go to. Since I got through my finals without combusting I decided to treat myself to an early birthday gift - My birthday/christmas just 8 days away now!!

Lush, Lush Haul, Twilight lush, vanilla bath bomb lush, ponche shower gel, lush bath bombs, lush bubble bars
When I first walked in I was completely overwhelmed. I didn't know where to look first. But the extremely nice and helpful sales associate was able to help me find more subtle scents that I liked.

I picked up the Twilight and Vanilla fountain bath bomb and a Yuzu & coco bubble bar. I seriously can not wait to try these out! For all three it was $20 which is a lot to spend so close to Christmas when there is still gifts to be bought. I hope these guys are worth the splurge. The nice sales associate told me to make them last longer the big bath balms like Twilight can be cracked into two so I can get two uses out of it.

I was also given a sample of the Ponche shower gel. I went to sniff it at home and got a little on my hands. So I washed it off, my hands didn't feel dry afterwards which is a typical feeling for my hands during the winter time. I'm also in love with the scent. I wish I bought a full size of it! It's such a soft, but fun fruity scent!

I can't wait to try out all my new lush items! Is there anything you guys love from lush? What do you recommend?

Holiday Outfit Ideas

It's christmas parties, new years parties galore! Which is always exciting. I have a few adds on to any summer dress that can get you through the holidays without buying a new outfit!

When picking which summer dress to convert to an winter outfit, you have too look at the bust cut. If it's too much a deep v, or scoop neck it doesn't usually look good with a shirt underneath it. When picking what dress to use look for sweetheart cut or tub-top cut.  Like my green cotton dress it has a sweetheart cut to it.  Of course I can't put you out to something you might find online. No one's really selling Summer dresses at the moment.

Underneath I paired a black thermal with a high neck. In my experience V-neck shirts usually don't work well under these dresses. The yellow dress on the right bottom would look awesome with a white long sleeve underneath. You could wear a scoop neck, or a high neck long sleeve shirt under the dress.

Summer dresses M.O. is being short so don't forget to buy dark tights or fun leggings to wear underneath so the short length of the dress is not that noticeable.

Don't forget a killer pair of Heels or Boots!

Volia! You have a new holiday party outfit without spending an outrageous amount of money. I don't know about you ladies but after buying all these Christmas gifts I have no leftover money for new party clothes!

Revlon's Colorstay Whipped Foundation

Revlon colorstay, whipped foundation, revlon foundation, colorstay whipped, swatches colorstay, colorstay whipped swatches

I personally love whipped foundations. I feel like in general they give better coverage. As you ladies already know due to having a super bad stint of acne I have quite a few scars to cover.

 Here's what Revlon promises:
-Buildable to full coverage for flawless skin
-Soft, matte finish all day long
-Withstands heat and humidity – great for summer
-Comes in 16 beautiful shades

Here's what I found:

Well I love the texture, nice and creamy! My kind of foundation. I do have to put out there I think I might have bought it in a shade to light. I blends in very nicely. I wouldn't say it last for 24 hours, but It did last just about all day. Which is great. It took me awhile to find the best way to apply this. I didn't like applying it to my face with fingers, or brushes. I found that using a makeup sponge worked the best.
Revlon colorstay, whipped foundation, revlon foundation, colorstay whipped, swatches colorstay, colorstay whipped swatches

Pros:

  • Last almost all day
  • Super creamy
  • Easily blends in.
  • Full coverage sans cake face
Cons:
  • Broke me out, on my forehead and chin.

Revlon colorstay, whipped foundation, revlon foundation, colorstay whipped, swatches colorstay, colorstay whipped swatches It broke me out. I don't have sensitive skin. I know lately it might seem like I do, but nothing really irritates my skin. I really wanted this to work but alas it did not. It's a shame too. I should have known better since any other kind of colorstay foundation I've tried it broke me out. I think there's an igredient Revlon uses in there foundation that just clogs my pores. I have yet to have any good luck with their foundations :( such a shame too.

You can see the small bumps on my forehead where it broke me out.

Revlon colorstay, whipped foundation, revlon foundation, colorstay whipped,

Here's a photo where I'm wearing the blended in foundation. You can see how well this blends in non cakey and light.

VERDICT: This broke me out, so no matter how much I loved the coverage and how light it felt on my skin I could not contiune to use this. If it didn't break me out I would have loved it. I'll pass on this. Can be bought at most drugstores, ulta, target and walmart. Sells for about $14.

I only spent $8 for two of these! So if you ladies like Organix hair products I'd march right over to walgreens because they're having a buy one get one FREE! Sale ends Saturday. Let me know if you ladies do buy something, and tell me what they are!

November Empties

CVS Brand Biotin is also in my empties pile. I've been taking it for a few months now, two a day. I definitely see a difference! I didn't notice the difference until two months later so be patient if you just started taking it.

I know I heard how bad head and shoulders is for your hair. I hear from many different stylists how the shampoo is bad for the hair. But I do love how their Dry scalp care conditioner keeps my scalp from being itchy. It even has almond oil in it. I use it once a week in place of my usual conditioner. I've already repurchased.

I only really use waterproof mascara in the summer, because I don't need it melting off my face at work- I work as an outside lifeguard in the summer. This has dried up and past it's 6months stay in my collection. Full'nSoft by Maybelline gives my lashes some color and a little curl. It doesn't make my lashes crunchy and it looks natural. Perfect for work. I will repurchase next summer.

I made a twitter!

I decided to take the scary leap and made a twitter for my blog. It's so intimidating sometimes, twitter that is. I thought it was now or never. That and I like to keep my blog separate from all my personal social platforms. All these #bbloggers chat where clogging up my personal twitter feed.

I did just do my first #bbloggers chat last night. It was scary at first but also so fun! The topic was "How did you get started? What are some tips and things you've learned from blogging." I learned that I wasn't the only one with the same feelings.

If you ladies want come find me on twitter! My user name is @BeautyBCollege.

Broadway Nails imPRESS Press-on Manicure in Wink Wink

So as you ladies know I was lucky enough to receive the VoxCollege box. In the box they had a lot of nice goodies such as an Impressed nail set. I was saving these bad boys for Thanksgiving, but well they didn't exactly fit my nails.

If you don't want to see a really negative review please look away because I see a lot of problems with these that I want to put out. I have long and rounded nail beds, but if you have short and flat nail beds this is PERFECT for you ladies, and I semi-suggest them to you. On to the review.

IMpressed Wink WinkThe fake nails come in this cute packaging. I think it's a cute way to use a giant nail polish like container to store it. It easy to get to the product and pretty sturdy.

You can find out more information on there website here: Broadway Nails imPRESS Press-on Manicure
IMpressed Wink Wink
The set comes with 24 different sizes. As you can see from this picture they're really tiny.

How these nails work is that they already have a sticky glue applied, takes the fuss out of it for you. First you have to figure out which nail to use for each finger once you do. You remove all your nail polish. Wash your hands, than wipe your nails with their prepping wipe to remove extra oils. I love that it comes with a prepping wipe to help insure it's long lasting. Once you sized and prep you remove the clear backing on the back and press them on your nail, Bam! You're done, super easy!
IMpressed Wink Wink, impressed too short.
Now onto what I thought after using these. Please ignore the fact I still have nail polish on, after realizing on thanksgiving that these would not fit my nails I saved them for later to show over nail polish so you can see how small these really are.

The picture to my right is only one hand because I used all the thumb nails on my fingers. They were the only ones long enough. I could only really do one hand. The ones meant for your other fingers are too short length and width wise.
The picture on the left is my thumb nail. That is a thumb fake nail. It's too short for my nail. The point in my books for fake nails is to get longer stronger nails. I think it defeats the purpose of fake nails if I have to file my nails for it to fit.
Here's a side view of all the thumb nails on my other fingers. You can see that they are the right length. But there was only 6 thumb fake nails. In this picture you can also see that they don't exactly lay flat on my nails. That's because I do have rounded nail beds. These fake nails are meant for those with a flat nail bed.

Because these do not lay completely flat it makes them not that sturdy. The fake nails themselves didn't feel all that sturdy, and they were easy to bend.

Here's a photo of my pinky with an actual pinky sized fake nail. It doesn't completely fit my nail, and I would have to cut my pink nail to a painful length for it to actually cover my nail. No thanks.

REMEMBER: I have long and round nail beds. These were sized for those with short and flat nail beds. Keep that in mind.

VERDICT: Thank god I had some sally hanson effects laying around so I could throw those on my bare nails or thanksgiving would have been a disaster for me!  Pass for long nails. Buy for short nails.  Even though I'm not personally a fan of them, I actually think these would work great for those with short nails. I'm honestly jealous you get to wear these because they have such cute designs. Retails at most drugstores, walmart, ulta, and targets for about $5.99 for colors $7.99 for patterns

Received these in my influenster college voxbox.
